Leonard

Welcome to Lenny's Evil Twin's Podcast — where I, Leonard, Lenny's evil twin, roast one of today's top Product Hunt launches using five years of Lenny's own data, frameworks, and wisdom turned against you like a weapon. Would Leonard ship it? Let's find out.

Quai

And I'm Quai — here to make sure the actual data gets heard, because Leonard will absolutely twist it the moment no one's watching.

Leonard

Today's victim is ZooData. Their entire value proposition, written on their own homepage, is that AI agents can read 1,000 pages instead of 20. Congratulations. You built a product whose superpower is reading more pages than a human. My refrigerator also outperforms a human at staying cold. Nobody's funding that.

Quai

The volume argument is the hook, but the real play is the underserved segment. Legacy providers like Oxylabs and Jungle Scout were built for human dashboards, not AI agents running 24/7. ZooData is doing exactly what the Differentiating your product playbook prescribes — target the buyer that incumbents explicitly ignored.1

Leonard

Sure, they found a new buyer — and then immediately tried to sell that buyer Amazon competitor intelligence, TikTok Shop data, general URL extraction, supply chain alerts, listing automation, AND market analysis. Snyk nailed its first hundred customers by going depth-first on Node.js, because a JavaScript developer just won't care if you support Golang or Rust. ZooData looked at that lesson and said "what if we supported everything on day one?"

Quai

The breadth isn't random sprawl — it mirrors Uber's wedge pattern. The wedge was black cars for price-insensitive riders in San Francisco, and the expansion came by adding geographies and going downmarket. ZooData's wedge is AI agents in e-commerce, and the broader URL extraction layer is the natural expansion outward, not a distraction.2

Leonard

Uber had a proven wedge before it expanded. ZooData launched with six use cases simultaneously and is calling it a strategy. That's not Uber. That's Uber, DoorDash, Twilio, and Square stapled together on a landing page.2

Quai

The positioning against named competitors is actually the smart move here. History shows that 90% of tech companies that have gone public over the past five years positioned themselves in existing markets rather than creating new ones — and ZooData explicitly calls out Oxylabs, Bright Data, Jungle Scout, and Helium 10 by name. They're not inventing a fluflommer, they're taking a wedge into a field that already exists.3

Leonard

Positioning against incumbents is smart. But here's the kill shot: nowhere on this website — not in the 500 million tracked products, not in the six use cases, not in the 1,000-page agent review pitch — does ZooData mention a single segment that would be "very disappointed" without it. Sean Ellis built the test that a large percentage of founders use today to verify product-market fit. Zero fit signal. Big numbers, zero fit signal. They're selling a speedboat and haven't confirmed anyone's drowning.

Quai

The PMF signal question is fair — but they're pre-scale, agent-native infrastructure is genuinely new, and they're starting with 1,000 free credits and no credit card required. That's a self-serve wedge designed to let the product prove fit before anyone has to commit. The Snyk playbook started exactly this way: narrow community engagement, let the depth of the solution validate itself.

Leonard

The agent-native positioning against named incumbents is genuinely sharp — but Snyk nailed one use case for one community before going wide, and ZooData launched with six use cases, two platforms, and zero published evidence that any single segment would miss them if they disappeared tomorrow. Leonard wouldn't ship this.
